California 2014 Day 3

Morning at the Saga Motor Inn in Pasedena

Breakfast - lots of fun with those many mini cereal boxes to choose from

Photo in the breakfast room ... the Saga was built in 1957!

First stop on the Pacific Coast Highway out of LA - The Getty Villa in Malibu

Home of Getty's antiquities collections - Greek, Roman and Etrurian

And set in a re-created Roman country home modeled after the Villa dei Papiri near Herculaneum (the possible home of Julius Caesar's father-in-law).

Getty wanted his visitors to feel the experience of a home and its art objects as they would have been experienced in ancient times.  Getty spent his final 25 years in England and never saw his vision come to fruition.

Entrance to the parking garage!

After a bit of a drive we arrived in Santa Barbara

Very picturesque, very posh

Three hungry travellers found a spot for some sushi

It was really good - Mum had the Bento box...

After lunch we headed down to the beach...

And saw some fantastic vintage cars....

The famous Santa Barbara dolphins (at least to me!)

Stearns Wharf at Santa Barbara

Chaos and near collisions with the rented bike brigade...

The inevitable art for sale...

Can't get enough of those glorious palm trees...

Barbara?

Heading out on the wharf...

A three-sail-er for Daddy...

Somebody really wanted a giant sour jawbreaker....

Heading back to shore....

Royal Presidio of Santa Barbara - a military base built by Spain in 1782!

The Presidio Chapel

After a 1+ hour drive and several tries to find a spot to stay, we wound up at the Blue Seal Inn for the night in Pismo Beach

Cottage #11
